Sociology
Since my Fall semester of sophomore year, I have been part of a research lab looking to surveillance as a method of policing in Detroit, Michigan. Aside from this research, I have taken many different classes in sociology and have found a lot of interest in both areas of deviance within sociology, such as transgression and dissent, but I also have found some interest in Economic Sociology, as some of my background contains some sort of history with Economics. Look below for more details on Project Green Light, my research in Detroit, Michigan!
Project Green Light (PGL) was a surveillance initiative that began in 2016, and since has added over 1,000 surveillance cameras to the city of Detroit. The research I have been doing with my professor Rebecca Gleit has specifically looked into the general perceptions that individuals have on the program itself. In the summer of 2024, the research group and I traveled to Michigan to survey, interview, and take observational field notes. With this information, we did statistical analyses and analyzed qualitative data, and concluded that a significant amount of the popoulation we surveyed is supportive of PGL. As of now, we have a working research paper that is to be submitted under review for publication in the next few months.
